VIDEO SET UP GUIDE

Here's an at-a-glance overview of how video and audio will be captured during your interview:

Picture
This page contains the information you need to set up your VIDEO RECORDING. You'll be configuring your HD webcam to work with Logitech Capture.

I'll be going through each of these steps with you during the designated tech set up time on your interview day.

1. Download and install the Logitech Capture and Camera Settings applications on the computer you'll be using for your interview.

You'll be running your Logitech HD webcam through Logitech Capture to record your interview. Full instruction on how to download and install this program can be found here.
Please also download and install the Logitech Camera app, which will give us backup camera controls.

2. Connect your HD webcam to your computer.

Visit the LogiTech Quick Start Guide for detailed instructions for both PC and Mac. Make sure you've reviewed the Audio Set Up page for step by step instructions on connecting your Snowball microphone.

2. Configure Logitech Capture video settings

Picture
  • In SOURCE 1 settings, use the pull-down menu to select HD PRO WEBCAM C920.
  • Select PRIORITY > FRAME RATE
  • All other settings should match above.

  • In EFFECTS, uncheck WATERMARK
Picture
  • In VIDEO, use the pull-down menu to select RESOLUTION > FULL HD
  • Make sure FULL HD is checked under LANDSCAPE
  • Select FPS > 24

  • In this same VIDEO menu, you can choose where your files are saved. If you'd like the update the default location, select CHANGE and designate your file location.

3. Sit pretty

  • Make sure you're seated with your lightsource in front of you not behind you.
  • Adjust the camera so you can make direct eye contact with it - raise or lower your computer/webcam to be at eye level, don't tilt the camera up/down to achieve this.
  • Look directly into the webcam and not down at the screen. If it's hard to find your focus, put a sticky note with an arrow on it behind the webcam to help draw your eye.
  • Don't rock the boat - make sure your computer is on a stable surface and that you're not tapping or jostling that surface with your hands or feet.
  • You might find it useful to use the framing grid to position yourself on screen.
  • Notice that I've got myself centered in the frame, with the upper third guide line at eye level.
  • You can turn the framing grid on in Logitech Capture in the VIDEO menu by toggling on ADVANCED SETTINGS > FRAMING GRID

4. Get ready to multitask!

You'll be running TWO apps: Zoom (our interview platform) + Logitech Capture (our video recording platform).

PC's are only able to run ONE app at a time through your webcam. This means you'll be using either your computer's own camera or no video for your Zoom call, and the HD webcam to record your interview through Logitech Capture. You'll be sharing your screen with me in Zoom so I can walk you through the Logitech Capture settings and monitor how you look on camera.

These instructions are to help orient you to the set up so you can be as prepared as possible when we start the call. I'll be going through every part of this set up with you, step by step, during the first part of our scheduled interview time together. Want to run through this in advance before our scheduled interview? Great! Drop me a line and we'll set up a time.

Step one

Picture
  • Quit out of ALL applications other than Zoom and Logitech Capture. No web browsers, no e-mail clients, nada.
  • Make sure your computer is plugged into its power source.

Step two

Picture
  • Login to our Zoom interview using the link provided in your scheduling e-mail. Can't find the link? Text or e-mail me and I'll resend it.
  • Click the ^ next to START VIDEO and use the pull-down menu to select your computer's built-in or default camera.
  • Take a moment to make sure all of your audio settings are configured according to this guide. We can go through this together step by step, I'm here to help.

Step three

Picture
  • While the Zoom meeting is running, open Logitech Capture and confirm that all settings are configured according to this guide.
  • Use Logitech Capture to adjust your lighting and frame.
  • If Logitech freezes during set up, quit out and relaunch the application.
  • Once we've completed our checklist, you'll hit record on Capture.
  • As with audio recording through your lavalier, the most important thing is that you've hit RECORD in Logitech Capture, and that recording is active and rolling throughout your interview.
  • Please test your webcam and the Logitech Capture app on the computer you'll be using for your interview prior to our interview date, and send the test file to me via WeTransfer.
  • If you encounter any difficulty capturing video, contact me and we'll troubleshoot!
